Business Development and Grants Manager
Jummar is looking to hire a part/full-time Business Development and Grants Manager to support securing funding and tracking grants.

Jummar [Palm heart in Arabic] is an independent online platform providing features and analysis of Iraqi affairs. Its main objectives are to provide Iraqi, regional, and international audiences with high-quality relevant information from diverse voices from Iraq, and to advance the practice of ethical and professional journalism amongst a new generation of Iraqi journalists. Jummar seeks to achieve these objectives through the production of accurate and balanced content, and through the provision of capacity building and mentoring for emerging and mid-career level Iraqi journalists.
Role summary
The Business Development and Grant Manager will proactively identify income from institutional donors and trusts and foundations and then develop project ideas into relevant and actionable proposals. Reporting to the senior management team, the role requires a person with experience, relevant skills, and relationships. You would ideally know Iraq well and/or understand the landscape for journalism and human rights issues in the region.
Main responsibilities and duties:

Business development and funding opportunities:
•
Develop and manage the grant application process, both through public/open calls and/or close/direct contacts with potential donors;
•
Develop new ideas for business development and submit them to institutional donors and/or trusts & foundations when appropriate;
•
Build and maintain databases of contacts and conversations with previous, current and potential donors and competitors;
•
Gather and share information on new potential funding and/or themes and communicate Jummar’s priorities to donors;
•
Develop strategies for engaging new prospective donors through research and data;
•
To work with the editorial team, the digital team and the management to submit timely proposals in response to calls including proposal development and coordinating the proposal administration process.

Grants management and reporting:
•
Serve as a primary point of contact for donors regarding grant-related matters and develop relationships with Jummar’s existing donors;
•
Track project implementation (deliverables versus actual work) in coordination with the editorial management team, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies;
•
Prepare and coordinate the timely submission of high-quality narrative reports to donors in close collaboration with the management team;
•
Monitor grant compliance and identify potential risks, proposing mitigation strategies when necessary;
•
Collaborate with programme teams to collect relevant data and success stories for reporting purposes;
Qualifications:
•
At least 2 years’ experience of working in a similar role
•
Significant and demonstrable experience of securing income from institutional donors, trusts and foundations
•
Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team
•
High quality verbal and written communication in English and Arabic
•
Problem-solving, proactive and critical thinking and a desire to collaborate
•
Proven successful experience in identifying and securing unpublished funding opportunities
•
Ability to deliver high-level presentations to donors and potential funders
•
High organisational skills and project management
•
Willing/ability to travel and represent the organisation before donors and at key conferences.
